Vientos del Sur

With Vientos del Sur, the audience takes in the panorama of the coasts of southern Spain with its fiery flamenco, soars over the rooftops of Lisbon resonating with melancholic fado, traverses the Argentine pampas, savors the sultry sounds of Cape Verdean music, and ends up in the swinging clubs of downtown Havana. With every note, the music draws you closer.

Singer Ester Veldhuis honed her voice through gospel, blues, and a flamenco choir, as well as during her time as a pop star in Bolivia. With her Latina spirit, her voice strikes a chord right in your heart. Alain Labrie, with his virtuoso guitar playing, draws out amazing melodies and rhythms. Flamenco bassist Franklin Heilijgers, together with master percussionist Olaf Keus, provide groove and musicality.

Weaving original lyrics with poetic Dutch translations and spoken word, Vientos del Sur invites the audience to explore universal themes—longing, “saudade,” and the joie de vivre. A mosaic of sound and words captivates listeners until the very last note.
